PRE-WWII JAPANESE GOVERNMENT IMPRINT. Volume 7 of the Tourist Library, a 40-book series the Board of Tourist Industry published between 1934-1942 to introduce Western tourists to Japanese culture. Discontinued during WWII. Includes color frontispiece (Kasuga Gongen Reigen-Ki picture-scroll), many color and B&W architectural plates, 133 pages. The HARDCOVER-IN-CHITSU deluxe issue (most surviving copies are softcover; this case binding is uncommon). PROVENANCE: Harry Hartman, Seattle bookseller's sticker on front pastedown -- Harry Hartman (1920s-60s) was a legendary Seattle bookseller and founder of the Young Reader's Choice Award (1940).
